7 daily habits

The Momentum Philosophy is centered on the concept of creating a lifestyle that supports your goals. I teach the 7 Daily Habits, because our habits are what make up our lifestyle. By establishing good habits and eliminating bad habits, we put ourselves in position to Build Momentum every day.

Breathe

The first habit is the most important thing we do. Breathing. The breath is the essence of life. We take, on average, over 20,000 breaths per day, and without our ability to breath we would be dead in minutes. With something so important to our health and well-being, shouldn’t we be doing it correctly. When I talk about breathing, I mean specifically, breathing through your nose. There is a significant difference in the quality of air and the way our body processes it, between nasal breathing and mouth breathing. Proper nasal breathing is imperative for our health, performance, mental state, longevity and even our facial structure

Eat Real Food

The second habit is to nourish our bodies with real food. Food is more than just fuel, it is information, and when it comes to giving our body the information it needs, there is no substitute for plants and animals. Real, living things that come from the earth, like we do. By eliminating highly processed, toxic “food” we are also able to eliminate the myriad of health issues that come with it, and enable our bodies to thrive.

Sleep

The third daily habit is to get 8 hours of good quality sleep every night. Sleep effects every aspect of our well-being, including brain health, hormonal balance, immune function, and our ability to control inflammation and repair damaged cells. Sleep is like a Swiss army knife for our health, but not getting enough can be devastating.

Walk as much as possible

Going for at least one daily walk is the fourth habit. Humans are designed to walk, and we rely on the movement and rhythm to keep our bodies functioning properly. Walking every day is an incredible form of exercise that will help us to get and stay lean, while assisting to keep our blood and lymph pumping and our joints healthy.

Meditation / mindfulness practice

The fifth habit is to develop some sort of mindfulness or meditation practice. There are countless benefits to meditating, and just like most of habits on this list, it will help with everything else that you do. As we are creating our new lifestyle and implementing our daily habits, mindfulness is what is going to help us break our old habits and free ourselves of the patterns and programming that no longer serves us.

Move your body

The sixth daily habit is to develop a movement practice. Just moving your body every day is important (that’s why walking is on the list) but I also find that it is important to strive for something physically. The process of acquiring and developing a skill, or multiple skills, is a great way to stay motivated, and is a vital step toward becoming a more capable version of our self.

Connect to nature

The seventh and final daily habit is to connect to nature. I believe it is important to, at the very least, get outside everyday in order to reap the benefits that the Earth provides to us. Remember, we are not separate from nature, we are of nature, and we cannot be truly healthy if we isolate ourselves from the outside world.

The more often we make healthy choices, the easier healthy choices become.
